Women of color were well represented at last Sunday's Race for the Cure, presented by the breast cancer fundraising and advocacy group the Komen Foundation. Among the groups walking the route were The Crowned Jewels, representing the North and Northeast Portland-based group, It's All About You. Founded by Rev. The vigil coincided with a march in the town of Jena, La. by thousands of supporters for six Black teenagers who supporters say have been the victims of overzealous prosecution for the assault on a White teenager.

New prevention strategy focuses on highest risk population

The King County Board of Health endorsed a strategy to reduce new HIV infections in King County by 25 percent by 2015. There are about 370 new HIV infections in King County each year, and the Board resolved to support a strategy that places the greatest emphasis on people at highest risk for HIV infection. The goal is to reduce new infections to 280 cases per year within eight years.

YORK, Pa. (AP) -- Complaints about students displaying Confederate flags on T-shirts and cars at an area high school led to a ban of the image and a later racial disturbance, officials said.
Administrators banned displays of the flag at Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock after several students said they were upset by the symbol, said Southern York County School District superintendent Thomas R. Hensley.
