A gathering will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, hosted by Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and community partners to announce the "groundbreaking" ceremony for the new edifice on the original site of the former church building that was erected in 1920.
On Feb. 6, 2007, the original sanctuary was destroyed by a fire leveling the historic building that had been considered a sanctuary for many to call home as well as place for spiritual enrichment.
Since the fire over three years ago, Pastor A. Wayne Johnson has led his congregation to raise funds to replace the building on its original site, located at 106 N.E. Ivy Street.
Members of the original congregation, neighbors, community leaders, clergy, civic and government official have been invited to attend a special "groundbreaking" ceremony on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited to join in the celebration of this historical event.
