Two of Portland's best-known performers are uniting for a night of musical collaboration highlighting the roots of jazz and the contributions that African music and culture have made to contemporary music.  Obo Addy - master drummer, composer, and one of the key originators of the "Worldbeat" movement – has joined longtime friend Thara Memory - one of the most talented jazz performers the Pacific Northwest has ever known – to put on a one-time only event.
"Africa Speaks - America Answers: The Obo Addy/Thara Memory Reunion Concert"  will take place at 8 p.m. on March 13 in the Kaul Auditorium at Reed College in SE Portland.
For the past six months, Addy and Memory have been working on new compositions that focus on the intersections between jazz and African music. Performing alongside musical legends Addy and Memory will be the Super Band, Patrick Lamb, Janice Scroggins,  LaRhonda Steele and Obo Addy's Okropong.
Advance tickets are $20 for adults or $12 for students and can be purchased at pdxtix.net or at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. Door prices are $22 for adults and $14 for students.
